Well it’s taken me a few days to find some time to do another post. I did the Wednesday post short because I just was too tired to jump up and down and be anything except tired. But I did need to write some thoughts down about an article I saw in Wednesday’s West Australian Newspaper.

I’d provide a URL except that the West doesn’t seem to have it online.

It seems as though he (Tony Rutherford) doesn’t like Carmen Lawrence, the shining left leaning light of the Australian Labor Party, who is now going to be party president for 12 months. Seems as though when labor changed the way voting for party president to let the rank and file members vote - they seem to like her. It could be that they like the stance she took on the refugees, that the govt, and the labor party in opposition were wrong, so she resigned from the shadow ministry and stood up for her beliefs. Yay Carmen, the hippies of your electorate would be worshipping you.

Anyways apparently this person thinks we should move on and forget things like the principals of a free health care system - always good in my eye, but apparently he thinks he should compare it to the United Kingdom’s health system, which we all know sucks. However, that really doesn’t bother me. The final paragraph he writes, does bother me.

“.. The real issue here, however, is in the end a historical one; in this world of middle-class values and preoccupations, there now seems nowhere for the old left of the ALP to go. Some of them might find a haven in the Greens, but for the rest, history has passed them by. If they will not face up to the implications of this, then it’s time they retired gracefully.”

Ok .. someone tell me how barracking for the good guys, objection to compulsory locking up of innocent people here on boats, better health care and free education is so bad? How is that so now old school, that the greens or even the democrats should be the ones to vote for? We have a 2 party system - voting for minor parties isn’t exactly going to make life better for us.

I’ll just mention facism again.

Censoring the media, locking up people for several days at a time with no legal representation or notification, compulsory locking up of refugees as they land, a “dob in a terrorist” scheme - a few racist policies dotted here and there (look at the way aboriginals and muslims are treated by media and government)?

I’ll get off my soapbox now..
