My netwifey sent me this in an email so I decided to post it here. Some of the readers of this site, are not from Australia, so this should illustrate the kind of Christmas we had (which was hot - damn hot), and very true for the most part.

Aussie Summer
You know you’re in an Australian summer when:
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

OK - Eyes left! I have made a few changes, made buttons roughly the same size (80*20) - the Secretary in me hated seeing uneven things. I moved links around, and removed others. I think it’s looking good so far, and I am changing the cool dangly wavey things which say, “the lori files” to say “freakychick” Cus in many ways, that is what I am. I hope this look is much better and easy to read. Feedback would be nice, but nothing too critical please I have a fragile ego and still learning all this html stuff :)

perspective

n 1: a way of regarding situations or topics etc.; “consider what follows from the positivist view” [syn: position, view] 2: the appearance of things relative to one another as determined by their distance from the viewer [syn: linear perspective]

Perspective is entirely subjective, It’s based on one’s own feelings and thoughts about situations, things, etc. So, whilst I might dislike Robert, others will find he’s a wonderful guy, and thank god that he’s been placed on the earth, and I am happy for them. I found perspective when gran died. So, I hope he has a happy life. I really do.

Due to some extreme abuse from some troublemakers on Austnet, I am editing some links to remove them from this site, and my main website, evillolly.net so some things can’t be found by people who would use anything to harrass others.

It’s a shame that it has come to this, but I value my privacy, and those of my friends highly, and whilst those who read this blog might know who I am, and I am generally open about alot of things, I value my friend’s right to privacy and desire to lead an existence free from abuse.

 Christmas Summary

Time to vent about work… feels like its all bad news at the moment.

[edited to remove the vent - don't want people reading things and getting offended]

Christmas was great :) I spent quality time with my family, missed gran, but i know she is happy. Mum made the best Trifle I have ever had .. she is now the trifle queen! Had a great party on sat night at D’s house, except the end bit where M’s car had a brick thrown through the back windscreen causing some damage, loss of 15% of his no claim bonus, and pay $200 excess. so Happy fucking new years to the pricks who drove past with bricks and smashed my friends car, i hope Karma comes back and bites you in the ASS!

Return of the King was awesome. People are bitching about some minor details, but i think watching the extended version will help :)

I watched my favourite disaster movie tonight, and was reminded about the September 11 Bombings for some reason.. the similarity of life imitating art..

Watching the end of the movie, Steve McQueen turns to say to Paul Newman, the chief architect.. “One of these days, they’re going to kill 10,000 in one of these firetraps.” .. horribly prophetic..

I am so disappointed in how things are working out with my work. I can’t sleep well thinking about it all. Mainly because W got fired yesterday. I had dreams before C called me about W turning up late for work, after he was given a written warning, and then told after a meeting had closed and we were still at her place looking at stuff for the new client. Those dreams were about C. Everytime she made a decision about home or work, something at her house burnt down. Her kitchen, her BBQ, her patio area (note in RL she doesn’t have one). Then she rang and woke me.

To say she was livid would be an understatement. It was all W’s doing. Now he’s paying the penalty. I felt, and so did C that he had taken advantage of her. So I suggested she give him the flick, and then re-employ him. She didn’t know if that re-employment was going to happen, and I guess at this stage I don’t think it is. I hurt for W. He totally wasted an opportunity. I did point out to C - that S was worse and lied numerous times. She felt I was being unfair. Then she said W had lied too, but S is management and had lied about me, which I think is much worse than giving excuses why they might be late/sleeping in etc.

Something else bugged me, and it didn’t really hit until today. C has all my email for KB forwarded to her email address. This means she can read all the corrospondence I get. Now, it’s not because I have anything to hide, that I care about it. It’s because to me, it’s a sign that she doesn’t trust me or in my abilities. M suggested a term I hadn’t heard of, but after reading about it on the web, I think it’s probably very appropriate.

Micro-management

Micro-management is an example of poor management where the manager over-manages people unnecessarily. The manager may be motivated by concern for details. The effect, however, may be to de-motivate employees and create resentment.

I am beginning to feel that my life is a Dilbert comic series. She corrected me with an email today telling me that I should check everyone’s YahooID’s to see how many others I got wrong. Then there was the email I sent her with minutes of Friday’s meeting. She commented that she couldn’t read it that well due to the “special” characters that were displayed in webmail, like somehow it was my fault they were there. Finally, the email about the report I gave her for December average, which is what she asked for. Instead of saying thanks, she asked that it would have been more useful if i compared it to the previous month. So 3 and a half hours later I have new graph for her. *emails*

My management style also came under fire this week. Apparently my directness when approaching staff when they need things brought to their attention isn’t the appropriate method. I need to make them feel like they are doing me a favour - as opposed to me actually suggesting what they should do directly so they get it right, which ultimately benefits them because they know what to do the next time and their productivity would improve - that means that puts them in a position of power over me so to speak, and my job depends on my staff being trained correctly and getting it right. So we might have one person who is slightly oversenstive.. but I asked others and feedback from them was ok.

So I am on day 2 of my day off, my friend W is unemployed, I have been disappointed by someone else who’s a friend, and I have to go to mum’s for brunch tomorrow, and I feel sad.
