What Mary does for GenX

i got this pic from www.news.com.au!

From the beginning, I have been fascinated by Mary Donaldson, who is going to be marrying the love of her life tonight. When I first saw on the web, news that an australian woman was dating a crown prince, my attention was instantly drawn to her. Over the last 18 months, I have read virtually everything I could find, and watched TV documentaries, and 60 minutes reports about the two, and how they met.

The documentary shown late at night *grr @ channel 7* really made an impression on me. She was articulate and intelligent, a no-nonsense type of girl, and she believed what I believed in. That marriage is forever. She’s only 2 years older than me, but I understood her thinking. I too have parents who are still married, which for people around my age is unusual, also we’re both in our 30’s an unmarried. Why wait so long? Because as she said, she was waiting for the one.

There are nay-sayers out there, and I have read a spiteful article today from one of them, they should step back a moment. She is one of us. She gives hope to those of us who haven’t settled down, who have grown to bitter and cynical to realise that love really is a positive force in our lives, and rather let herself be frightened about the consequences of being in love with a prince, she’s taken a step forward into the unknown, leaving her native country behind, her friends, and moving into a new world. A world with a completely different culture, new language, new rules, she has lost most of her privacy, the whole world knows she’s fertile, and that her main purpose is to reproduce an heir to the Danish throneForget the fact she is going to be moving into a big Castle and have servants for a minute if that’s possible.

Mary however, knowing this, goes into this world with the man who loves her most in the world, who will be there for her, and he’s not afraid anyone knowing that he loves her. How many women can say that? She should be treated like a beacon of hope to the rest of us who are too scared to step forward and make that committment in life, in love. Put away the cynicism, put on your biggest smile and step forward, we need to shake off the shackles of the cynical label of X Generation and start living.
