Today is geek day
I went out even tho I was still sick to meet a friend and managed to have lunch, but had to rush home and be sick again - but it was a nice lunch, and not all of it came back up. *note to self: no lunches at DimSum restaurants* So on the way home I began to think about MP3 players, and I think I am infected with Ipod syndrome. Everyone I know has one, and I feel the unconcious pull of peer pressure to get one. However it is warring with my GenX’ness and I am wanting to avoid what everyone else gets because we’re told it’s cool. It’s hard being me. I told M I need to get an MP3 player next week, we’re getting one, but damn it, it is NOT going to be an Ipod, if I get one, then I have failed my Gen-X roots!
I am going to convert my laptop to a linux laptop this weekend. I have a second computer which is a PC (XP) so if things break, I have backups of everything. I am thinking that the flavour of linux will be something basic which makes hardcore geeks wince - Redhat. However it’s going to be Fedora. I’ve looked up compatability charts around the place to make sure that my Toshiba Laptop doesn’t have any issues, and it looks like that RedHat9.0 and Fedora install quite nicely. For further info about Fedora… click here
I already use mostly non microsoft products: OpenOffice, Thunderbird, Sunbird, FireFox - however I want to make that conversion complete - but I do have to mention one thing, I need MSN
my friends use MSN to chat to me (non IRC friends) So I will need to install WINE aswell, or I can use a AMSN product which is I think Version 6.0 platform. Not sure if it will be compatible with my friends’ who need to have the same version to chat to me, which in that case.. I’d need WINE to then run MSN6.2
So much geek blog stuff. if I got an Apple laptop and an Ipod, I’d be part of the in-crowd that did the perth blog nite ![]()
