Fact of life
One of the facts of life is redundancy.
I’ve been made redundant at two jobs. One of them was 8 weeks pay and leaving that afternoon, the other one was .. work for 6 more weeks and then go please.
Today 3 friends of mine were made redundant. The company they work for, is doing the cost cutting and consolidation thing. A few other people in the company lost their jobs and all non essential personnel on salary were invited to either go back to other departments or leave.
I think 2 of my friends will end up leaving. Both are planning trips, one going to Melbourne and the other going to US. I dunno what the 3rd one will do. I felt gutted when I read their emails this morning when I got to work. How crap is it to lose your job on Friday 13th? Who knows what will happen next. Makes me glad I work where I work.
I ate alot of comfort food today, so I feel fat and bloated. Gah, someone take me to the beach and call in greenpeace, that’s all I can say.

My sister is the redundancy queen. It’s happened to her twice within the same YEAR. I shit you not! The first time she got an amazing pay out so she wasn’t too upset. The next time she was given “proffesional help” ie, taken to a job agency to find another position. It’s a bastard of a thing and i hope it never happens to me.

I’ve seen people go in a redundancy and I’ve been victim to it - but I had been expecting it for months and had a trade so wasn’t worried. It’s cruel and if you are glad that you have kept your job then so be it.

one of my best friends was made redundant because my secondment was over and i had to return to my original position which she had been temping in. That was hard. I am lucky since two of the positions were abolished were positions that people told me to apply for this year and I said no.
