Career Development
Most people at my work have some kind of career development plan. I’ve had some chats about my development goals, but nothing in writing. Rather than rely on other people to develop my skills for me, I’ve gone and done things myself to learn how the call centre works. It’s very interesting to see the dynamics, and the higher up the foodchain you are, or the more friends in high places you have, the more you see/hear.
My new teamleader has decided she’s going to be proactive with my career development. and I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, so I do as she requests. I have an old template of her career development plan, and have added some ticks and crosses on some skills I need to develop. I think it’s a good idea and am glad that I have something I guess to work for/on/with.
I also had to talk about myself in 3rd person. Only cool or daggy people do that, so I’ll say that I am cool. So I have adjusted the statement slightly about WHY I am doing the development plan, but I’ll be honest. I don’t know what I want to do. I never have. This is the first workplace I have been in where I am happy, I love the work that I do, and I have achieved a long cherished goal of working for a full service Telco. Now I am here, what can I do? What kind of career path is there? What can I achieve? I’ll figure it out eventually.
That’s about all I will post about work in any detail ![]()

So you had to say things like, “Lori is a snazzy dresser. Lori takes naps when she can. Lori likes to boogie on the weekends.”?
