What else is there?
I went to IKEA with my friend J today. She’s looking at moving out of home and her parents are getting used to the idea. She’s the same age as me, moved back home when she was 27, and now it’s time to spread her wings again.
She’s lucky! She gets to start off with new everything, moving out when she wants to, not because she has to. I decided I would get a few small things that I needed for my home. My sister commented that my place was a little sparse, and after the amazing kitchen that I had when I lived with X, she had said to me it was a shame that I didn’t have the stuff in there I used to.
So J and I wandered around, j looking at couches, and me commenting I should get my favourite blue velvet lounge re-upholstered. Who am I kidding.. I can’t afford that, I have a credit card to pay off, and a car to fix. J looked at kitchen tables, and we found some which would look great in a small kitchen.. not too big, folds away nicely.
Plates, I finally purchased some. I am going to give a dinner set of maxwell williams to my sister. I took two sets when I left X, and I won’t use the second one.. I don’t really use the first one. She can have it as a gift. I also got cutlery, since I had to take some from X’s who thought I had taken all the little spoons. I got some steak knives! Awesome but they weren’t free. J got some cutlery, and a shoe holder thingy. She has 40 pairs of shoes, I have about 5 useable pairs… correction, I had 3 pairs before I went to EU, I brought home another 4 pairs of shoes
So.. I have a couple of photos of the stuff I purchased at IKEA today.

Not too bad I guess. The carpark was chaotic. I think they should probably move IKEA to somewhere with better parking, the one in Osborne Park is cramped. I also got some Elderberry cordial and cloudberry jam, very nice!
J and I got coffee and talked about Sex and the City. I remember a few years ago when it was on, I just couldn’t relate to it. I didn’t think the show was that interesting, but lately when it has been on at night, I have had those moments, and thought.. yeah.. that makes sense. J has had a similar revelation about it. We’re both in our 30s. Kinda singleish with complex relationships with males of the opposite sex, and also looking at our careers thinking, this isn’t what we want to do for the rest of our lives. What else is there?
What else is there for a woman in her 30s in the big wide world?

On a rainy Monday morning Ikea’s carpark is still chockers. Ridiculous.
