No. Instead you do something and bring up the race card like you did in 2001 with the children overboard, and tampa when you think you are about to lose an election.

In the first budget that Costello bought down in 1996, he slashed funding for Aboriginal Health in NT.
This fits well with their method of crisis management, which goes like this: rip funds out of dozens of programs, watch what screws up really bad, label it as an “area of greatest need” and throw some funds at it (preferably less than you ripped in step one).
They’re so transparent, and I’m loving watching his seizure of the initiative crumble to dust in his hands, and the “policy initiative” is less than a week old.

What about all of the state and territorian governments? Are not they also responsible for the lack of help? I lived in the territory and there are MANY, Many problems with the indigenous population…I honestly do not think we (white people) will ever FIX it…and for the record I think you will find that the funding ‘taken’ from aborigines was because they then came under the standard medical funding for ALL AUSTRALIANS. I am not apologising for Mt Howard or what he is doing but what is the alternative? Why does NSW and QLD still not fix THEIR problems? Look at Dubbo, Look at Woorabindah (QLD)…the (Labour) Premiers just send in more cops!!!!! I do not normally respond to political blogging but I did this time and do not know why.
Territory Govts depend on Fed Govt funding.
WA government has been shutting down certain camps around perth for years to fix the problems.
this is not unique to the NT, however, the way other states have been dealing with it, and the NT hasn’t, doesn’t mean that the feds should be sending in storm troopers.
