The monk over there are generally kids given to the monastary because their parents couldn't afford them. It doesn't neccessarily start because they had a higher calling with the peace love and mung beans. The Burmese govt is so corrupt and intent of robbing their own people. Its completely understandable that they wigged out a touch and flambe'd vehicles.
